I barely check the updates and new software sections these days, but I’m always enjoying the Weekly Highlights and the Newswire. Pretty sure I’m reading at least two of the linked post each week
I think the comment about AI is not in good faith.
It isn’t users saying every “AI assisted” project is vibe coded slop.
It is just as often or more that developers and “developers” lying about AI assistance when they are just vibe coding or “AI assisting” and barely checking over the code. There are tons if those on Fdroid android apps too.
The projects that are actually only AI assisted don’t get that many complaints on most communities I see. It is the slop that people push as legitimate that gets people riled up.
How do you go about finding out which one of the two possibilities is true?

YTZero, you mean? It looks like the maintainer is stepping away because of the potential legal jeopardy of dealing with Youtube, so it’s going unmaintained. Which is a damn shame, I’ve used it for a couple months now and love it. I might have to maintain my own fork.
I’ve lost all motivation to continue any sort of self-hosting. AI/LLM has crept into every corner of the internet. It’s killed the community vibe I once grew up with. There’s a certain lifelessness with these projects and the internet as a whole that’s hard to describe but it’s just not fun anymore.
I’m in the progress of changing my hobby to be more offline. Writing my own code for my own purpose and entertainment. I’ll still host my code on Codeberg. Codeberg, this Lemmy account and that one
bashfocused discord server will be my entire online presence going forward. Whatever happens, happens and I won’t feel a loss about losing access to any of those things.Capitalism and the forces that promote or enable capitalism just exploits everything until there is no life, fun or joy left…
What has that got to do with it? I’m still going to run stuff on my own hardware regardless of what AI companies are doing.
It’s not what the API companies are doing. The self-hosting community/open source as a whole has been flooded with vibe coded slop projects
This is me with game mods. Can’t fucking find one mod that isn’t slop code, slop images, slop description.
I feel you here, it’s gotten really bad lately for me as well. AI has really ruined things for me. As well as everything being so generally expensive it’s just no longer fun. :(
I cant believe my raspberry pis are going up in price! and pis are getting more expensive!
I’ve switched from Pinchflat to Pinchflat NGX (even though I hate the new theme, bling bling…), now I just need someone to take over YTZero as well, because that was my main replacement for Invidious/Piped that kept breaking, and Pinchflat was only a backup solution for me…
How did you migrate? Just point the directories to those from PF?
