it was the fact that it was undisclosed that was the main issue. i imagine most people assume that when there’s a public scoring system, posts with high scores are trustworthy (or to put my finger on it, aligned with the prevailing opinion) and posts with low scores are not. finding out that no, actually some users’ experience is weighted according to the whim of, in their mind, just some guy, suddenly the whole concept of trust (alignment) on the platform goes out the window.
