I’m tired of supporting instances that support that trash. Are there any suggestions or even a good up-to-date list available?

If you mean .ml then yeahhhh - there’s quite a few good niche communities and plenty of lovely users from there, but the crushing of even minor, polite dissent from the instance mods/admins is starting to become worryingly common. If you mean fedinsfw, it’s a smidgen bit too late for that warning lol. But either way thank you!

IMHO, fedinsfw is often a bastion of free speech, though obviously not in its entirety. People are the salient point of failure, often enough.

Yeah that’s been my experience. I’ve only ever had an issue with two people on there, and those were both just dumbass behavior that was pretty promptly handled. Even had some good discussions about anarchist theory (and in one case it’s applicability to the Sonic the Hedgehog universe), which was deeply refreshing.

            How ironic that

Makes one think… assuming one hasn’t been coaxed into relinquishing that ability to fail in filtering out our oppressors’ agitprop, etc.,of course.

It’s like owning the narrative is half or more of the battle.

One thing I’d not really thought about until recently is the idea that the organisers of the Boston Tea Party really did admire the freedom and other aspects of Native Americans, hence why they disguised themselves as such. And yet on the whole, like most other colonists, considered the NA’s to be savages, with the implication that they needed to be managed by the white man. But the overall idea being cultural appropriation… like taking over all the desirable aspects of being NA, while acting abominably towards the actual Native Americans.

But the body of Americans fell hook, line and sinker for the Myth of America, so most of us are kind of oblivious about stuff like this.

Don’t even get me started on the pioneers being led by that same golden legend to take over the rest of the continent (+/-), only to be discarded* when the rich fucks decided it was safe enough for them to roll in and take it all from them, whole cloth —“legally binding” documents be damned. 🤨

*: and/or starved, encarcerated, defrauded, forgotten, shot on sight, et al.

Yeap. I was listening to the First America podcast recently, and it was pointed out that later in the famous document that started with “all men are created equal” it was followed by words to the effect of ‘NA’s are savages,’ with nothing but negative implications.

Bottom line is that as much as the country was founded on the idea of a modern democracy, it was also directly founded on greed and racism. Greed for the land most specifically, with the crown preventing them from crossing over the Appalachians, hence the need to break away.

The legend holds that it was founded on that and other platitudes when, in reality, it was founded to give the semi-ruling class and < 3rd kids of washed-out lines a treehouse away from the 'rents. First, it was cowboys & indians (😅), then it was GIs & J— nope. Anyhow, you get the picture.

We’ve always been disposable, neglectable after-thoughts to them —even when those among us shine like none other, they’re still commodified, paraded for a bit, and then hucked aside for the new thing. Hell, been this way for centuries, really. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Real talk: how long until we see the first Desert Storm action figs? How about a Twin Towers LEGO set? 🤮
