It’s not as formally organized as these other events, but for the last 3 years I’ve held a 2 week long Owl of the Year bracket tournament on !superbowl@lemmy.world around the end of November. Each round everyone votes on their favorite of that pairing, and the winner advances.
At the end, I donate a legacy tile to the animal clinic I work at to fund owl rescue, and it’s got the name of the overall winner and the name of the community.
It always helps get the subscriber count a boost, and I get a better idea of what content people want to see for the coming year. It also lets me highlight a bunch of owls a lot of people have never heard of, and hopefully gets them to take concern for their preservation.
