What fediverse/social network concept/feature/UI do you enjoy the most?

the respect of my privacy, thx to no tracking/no ads.

I’ve not heard about that, is this a thing? A project?

Admins with access to the database and logs are free to run their own analytics, and share data with whoever they want. There also seems to be a few bots attempting to scrape all available data on the fediverse.

That was a bit off topic I guess. I really like how accessible the fediverse is by design, and how easy it is to curate an interesting feed.

Helps that I have a fairly typical set of hobbies for the fedi demographic.

ActivityPub makes most info easily accessible, RSS seems to be a thing in the majority of the fediverse softwares, and as the scrapetacular admin has said, administration has privileged access to what’s going on. If anything, it’s far easier to be anti-privacy silently in the fediverse, even if the bureaucratic identity identification from the headlines isn’t as easy to apply, as what the user posts and interacts with draws a pretty good picture of who he/she is.

Btw, about being easily accessible, fedia.io and friendica.social both are private instances, and for a time thebrainbin.org was too, but neither entered a whitelist-type of defederation and so communities and users from all 3 could still be followed from elsewhere. In a similar sense, misskey.io only accepts registrations over non-proxy/VPN Japanese IPs, and feddit.it only accepts registrations if the user can speak Italian and knows of Italian news, and yet both can be followed externally just fine.

      Very cool project. :)

Maybe we could also create an access to zulip through piefed too ?

Yep piefed has a pluglin. And maybe, we could remplace its chat with zulip ?

Something that kinda combine piefed and retrieve zulip messages ? But dunno the complexity.

Maybe we should check Zulip licence before engaging to this idea. Piefed has a basic chat, it does its job quite well. However, the main problem for user, maybe is that they have one app for chat (matrix, zulip…) another one for forum (piefed)

So maybe they will be interested with this integration along matrix one ? The only thing that worry me the most is piefed ressource consumption.

I want to keep server ressource as low as possible. But anyway, you are the expert here :)

Heh, it’s possible to integrate piefed inside zulip thanks to integrations. It’s also certainly possible to integrate zulip inside piefed but that’s another thing.

Integrating zulip inside piefed is certainly interesting, maybe just an adapter of the piefed api over zulip’s api should be enough. I don’t see why the software should be checked though.

Right now to me it’s more important to improve piefed so that I can use its api without using too much resources, and with a bit more reactivity

Somehow i think both software are similar, very close to each other. Zulip only misses a server federation protocole :)

Well if you have the skill to achieve that it would be greatly appreciated. The dev team would be very happy to have a new contributor 😁 but you should follow your dream…i hope more users will help :3

I like the concept that your post doesn’t go out to every actor on the network on Mastodon, just the ones you’re most connected too.

And you don’t see all the comments on other posts, just comments from accounts in your neighborhood, in a manner of speaking.
