minus-squareMatriks404@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up19·1 year agoMe: kill -9 $$ It’s only a joke btw.
minus-squaretoynbee@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up15·1 year agoDamn, dude. Glad it’s just a joke, but that’s the nerdiest and most circumspect way I’ve ever seen this expressed.
minus-squareRedjard@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkarrow-up3·1 year agoI type kill -4 $$ all the time so I don’t pollute bash history. It’s probably up there as most typed command in 3rd place after l and cd ... I swear I can type the entire thing in 1s flat on a good day.
minus-squaretreesoid@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·9 months agoCtrl+D sends EOF, which also closes the shell, but is less to write.
minus-squareRedjard@lemmy.dbzer0.comlinkfedilinkarrow-up1·9 months agoBut it saves the command history to disk. It makes the exit command redundant, so that is removed from the history, but all other commands in all cases but mistakenly sshing into the wrong machine will still be saved.
minus-squaretisktisk@piefed.sociallinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3·1 year agoI’ve seen 1 dollar sign, what does two mean in this context?
minus-squareppue@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkarrow-up5·1 year agoIt is a variable holding the process id of the shell instance interpreting the command. You could say “yourself” instead.
minus-squareMinnesotaGoddam@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up3arrow-down1·1 year agoOh dude. I, uh, overheard a very failed asking out they other day. It basically went: Person 1:Hey, you’re real pretty are you single? Person 2:uhhhh no. Person 3 pretending to be oblivious: Hey that looks real sharp I’ve never seen anyone disappear quite so fast as person 1, so that was neat.
minus-squareZiglin (it/they)@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglisharrow-up2·1 year agoI’m confused by person 3.

I’m partial to
