  • Anyone who believes Microslop corp …

    ROTFLMAO

& their machiavellianism means that probably they’ll make security-updates contingent on adding-in their new evil-malwares into one’s system.

( They burned me in DOS 6.20, when their corrupt illegal-copy of Stac Electronics drive-compression was sabotaging me, & I got the no-compression-enabled DOS 6.21, then they came-out with a compression-enabled-and-fixed DOS 6.22, which I wasn’t eligible for, of course…

It’s depressing just how much of the internet is scrubbed of evidence, stories on the evil of big-money establishments/incumbents…

so, instead of having books ( someone did have a book on Microslop-corp’s machiavellian evil actions-history, it’s gone, now: can’t even find what it was called, & it was a physical book ) & trustworthy-Journalism cataloging the history we NEED to keep in mind, for accurate-framing … all that is disappeared & we all live in the consent-manufacturing-process that the economy “needs” us to be processed in.

    Never trust them.

    For any reason.

    Ever.

    They WILL betray you.

Read “A New Brand World” ( the word-order is correct ), & read about a marketing-firm who had Microslop-corp as their highest-paying contract, by far, & … it was killing them: they had NO soul.

The CEO of the marketing-firm sent around an email, 1 day, which said ONLY:

“Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead.”

& EVERYbody knew that that meant the CEO had saved their company’s life by killing that contract, because the “culture” of Microsoft was extinguishing their viability.

    That is evidence.

    Steve Balmer was evidence, too.

All the companies whose work they stole, & litigated against the companies, while selling/bundling the same product, all those are evidence, too.

Ask Linus Torvalds about Microsoft, someday, if you want an opinion on them… I’m certain he’d agree, as he’s seen the same kinds of things, & more, for decades…

They will never be trustworthy, if their history predicts their future.

There was the time they gave people cloud-drive storage…

…but their ToS-agreement gave Microsoft copyright on all that we stored up there…

You truly can’t make up the consistency of machiavellianness that Microsoft has carved in Eternity’s eyes…

  • Saw that & thought “Good”.

then realized there was an implication…

Shouldnt child sexual-abuse material be illegal no matter what the source that was generating it was??

IE all the underage hentai, whether human or AI generated, all the photo, all the video, shouldn’t it already be illegal, without having to do each source separately?

if they’re having to make each kind illegal as it gets invented, then they’re anchoring on the wrong thing.

It’s the child sexual-abuse nature that ought make it illegal, not what its source was.

( & yes, that too has implication, for some: is it illegal to describe/document one’s own abuse, when one is/was a child?

That, too, is solving the wrong problem.

Correct law takes real work to engineer properly.

The game Nomic was devised to gain people real experience with consequences-of-legal-regime-choices…

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomic

Unless people experience how something works, how’re they supposed to understand the consequences of treating it carelessly?

That is as true in physical-technology as it is true in law. )

  • NOTHING will ever convince me to base my career-viability on wordpress, which is PHP based.

https://whydoesitsuck.com/why-does-php-suck/ ( notice that TRUE == TRUE == FALSE in PHP, which I consider intolerable, in critical-infrastructure )

    Sorry.

    PieFed’s Python based ( I wish it had been Julia-based: both less-ugly AND higher-performance, by engineering-of-the-language-to-the-CPU-architectures ),

& doing it in a good high-level language means that dev-effort can go into getting the architecture right, instead of slogging-through the low-level details, which Rust-based platforms force.

Until the architecture’s sorted, I think that Haskell would probably be the ultimate domain-cracking/prototyping language for developing such a platform.

Wordpress, though? Zed Shaw ended up HATING it, & I tend to agree with people who value effectiveness in infrastructure, as he does.

It solved the problem of getting everybody dependent on it, but it didn’t solve either the security problems, or the correct-code problem, or the properly enabling-people-who-want-structured-publishing-with-discussion-and-karma-systems-and-federation-and-different-kinds-of-communities problem.

Same as Microslop’s beloved no-keyboard-warrior/ALL mouse-based paradigm: helped some, & hobbled others.

Each paradigm whether platform or language helps some, & hobbles others.

Wordpress needs to be obsoleted from our world, yesterday, forever, in my view.

    So does PHP.

PHP thinks the boolean value true is equals to the string "foobar" while "foobar" is equal to 0, yet 0 is not equal to true.

  • I intend to use either Lemmy or PieFed, or some equivalent, to do a self-publishing site:

you know how some communities are “locked”, such that only the moderators post, but everybody can comment?

An author’s site, like that, but in-depth writing, not just links to for-profit-site’s articles, see?

Rendering “Medium” and “Substack” and all the rest of the “if you want to be a writer who is known, you have to be within our platform” cartels irrelevant…

Income through Ko-Fi, FundRazr, etc, instead of their paywalled-“garden”.

If many authors were to do that, then:

    1. authors would have DIRECT COMMUNITY, & feedback
    2. the damn “IF you want to be a writer, THEN you obey OUR for-profit platform” paradigm could permanently go eat rocks, &
    3. since federating is voluntary, spontaneous this-author-federates-with-that-one networks of writers can emerge, thus replacing the publishing-cartel’s oldfangled newspapers, magazines, book houses, platforms, etc.

Book-people who understand digital-community are likely to understand this paradigm,

but the people who hold that there is ONLY 1 use for Lemmy/PieFed: that is where ANYbody can submit articles, & author-instances simply aren’t tolerable, because they aren’t “anarchistic” enough … well, they can do their best to prevent this diversification-of-the-fediverse that I’m going to be doing, & hope others will, too.

I want as many competing against me as possible, see?

    More fun!

PS: managed hosting is a requirement for the paradigm to work: I’ve ZERO interest in SysAdmin either as a profession or as a hobby ( those days are … last-century, for me ).

Just adding that so that any other who’s interested in the paradigm will know what to find, to make it work for them.

PPS: https://elest.io/open-source/piefed just became available within the last 24h.

    Lemmy managed-hosting is available there, too, & on other managed-hosting providers, as well. ( e.g. https://elest.io/open-source/lemmy )

NOW we who don’t want to sysadmin linux can choose between both platforms, for making our personal-publishing site, or for any community relying on either platform ( my use-case obiously isn’t the most common, or most needed! : )

Here is Elest.io’s full list ( no, I’m NOT an “affiliate” of theirs: I’ve tried their NodeBB, which … NodeBB looks nice, but there were some brokennesses in it, which forced me to ditch my project/site, & just hold-back & wait. WORKS-RIGHT is more-fundamental than looks-nice! ) https://elest.io/fully-managed-services

ANYone who wants to put a reply to my comment, listing OTHER managed-hosting-providers, PLEASE do-so!!

    : )

This is for the community’s benefit!

& the better the diversity-of-options, the better for our community!

    Salut, Namaste, Kaizen, & Gratitude!

  • If you truly want to destroy the belief in leaders, then start with the most-fundamental: eradicate parenting.

Once there are NO leaders in anybody’s lives, THEN people will stop assuming that leaders somehow provide value.

That means parenting needs, for that agenda, to be destroyed.

( no, I’m not being sarcastic: for that agenda that is an actual requirement.

I’ve got no problem with different-moralities acting on the world, so long as they’re being honest, & let Natural Selection pick between them.

Moneyarchists, concentration-of-wealth-archists, no-archy-archists, communist-party-fascism, individual-centered-fascism, monarchy, oligarchy, committee-archy, etc, all ought work-out to the final degree, what their morality actually means, & honestly commit to their exclusive-supremacism.

The world would be an aweful-lot clearer, if that were consistently done, & people could pick what they REALLY believed-in, instead of all the cultish “cultural massage” of “bringing people in” to this, or that ideology.

Then Natural Selection will do exactly what it’s going to do anyways,

but this-way everybody’d be able to see what people mean even when an ideology usually pretends it means something else…

Honesty would make the world better. )

I’ve lived in XFCe for years, awhile ago, now use LXQT.

XFCe had this goddamn thing where windows had a 1-pixel thick window-grabber.

There was no means of fixing it, that I could find.

    UbuntuStudio.org used XFCe, too, btw…

Eventually I got sooo fed-up with the broken UX that I just committed to never using XFCe ever again.

That was sometime in the last few years…
