Does your manager give you deadlines, even if just in theory? I have an adjacent issue where I’ll do great work for as long as it takes me to do it. But if I have a deadline, I know I can’t delay to meet that goal. Typically the sooner the better

Yeah this doesn’t seem relevant to solarpunk realistically. I appreciate the article, as hard to read as it is. It’s certainly aimed at those already deeply versed in complex political “philosophy.”

One should reject a visible identity and hide their presence, identity, and possible alignments from government. Though what the author doesn’t seem to note is that reading the article, in a society under surveillance, even reading this article should be enough to label you as someone who might align with its views.

On the other hand, more division of the left is certainly what the world needs… But seriously, continuing to diversify left-leaning identities while conservatives continue to rally is the last thing we need. Moreover, if more of the left “hides” their identity, it will continue to make the right appear stronger. And in a world where so much of people’s support depends on appearances and peer pressure, I don’t think we can afford to give up that metaphorical ground.

I appreciate your thoughts here, and in no way is this calling out the leadership or even the userbase. I accept that I have my own role to play in making a difference, and that’s an effort I’ve yet to pursue. Be the change you want to see in the world.

Though re: detraction from my experience, I’m more concerned with the ability to draw others toward the collective cause of solarpunk. Which, when a large amount of discourse is one of the same standard flavors of political derision with a new label, it’s likely the community may continue to grow in that direction.

The vast majority of posts in this instance’s communities are focused on pointing out failures and perpetuating doomerism. Where’s the solarpunk in slrpnk?

I ask this genuinely, not just complaining. I joined this community looking for motivations to lead a more solarpunk lifestyle, myself. Instead it feels closer to most other communities that just point out all the shit in the world, but with a bit more focus on renewable energy complaints vs. other options. It just makes me wonder what the point is.

Am I wrong here?
