Had a 1 on 1 with my manager yesterday. He’s says my perfectionism delays shit too long, but also realizes it’s good when harnessed correctly bcz my work is solid. Just wish I could figure out where to do shit work to come in on time on my tasks. Going to start next week.
I have a coworker just like that! Love working together with them, because I have turned my back on perfectionism entirely, so I’m great at making mockups, proofs of concepts and prototypes at a rapid pace. Then I hand them my work and they refine it. Gives them a solid scaffolding of what to do and how it should end up looking, so they’re not overwhelmed by pre-planning and considering everything upfront, and I get to not worry about the details. Solid win-win for everyone!
Does your manager give you deadlines, even if just in theory? I have an adjacent issue where I’ll do great work for as long as it takes me to do it. But if I have a deadline, I know I can’t delay to meet that goal. Typically the sooner the better
