Minor thing, but added a piece of OSB to the bottom of the foam lid to our energy box in the attic access (basically a wood tunnel through the insulation that has a 1" piece of polystyrene insulation board on top). It was built with weather stripping to help air seal it, but the hunk of foam isn’t nearly heavy enough to really sit on the stripping. I’ve been meaning to do it for like 6 months and finally cut the scrape of OSB I had, glued it down and added some small handles. Should make it a lot easier to move out of the way, seal better, and be more durable.

I’ll have to do a post with some pictures from a few weeks ago when I installed our EVSE soon.

We have a shit-ton of projects on the go and zero free time (and energy). So today I decided to pay $6,000 and have someone repaint part of the house exterior. We don’t have the time, skills, or tools to do it ourselves, and it will buy us some time until we can properly address the underlying issues.

I have this on my list of things to do. I have the romex, just need to grab a couple breakers to add the circuits and do the work. I know it won’t be hard, and will be well worth it, but getting started is hard when it’s out of sight and only annoying when I need them.

Working on my basement project again!

We tore out the walls a few years ago for a few reasons, but the project stalled after that as we were getting water in the basement. I think we have that issue solved now, and I have more time, so I’ve restarted work to build it into a usable room.

I think I’ve previously ranted about how the previous owner of the house apparently hated ground wires. I found another outlet that had a ground wire run to it, but the ground wasn’t connected to the outlet (and it was a plastic box). Why?!?

Some other screwy wiring decisions meant that the first half day was just getting working temporary light in the rooms so I could see better. It’s hard to explain, but I’ve installed studs that will serve as support for outlets and drywall.

I may have to remove some of the remaining original drywall - he had installed an outlet up high (for a workbench he had in that room), but I want it at the normal height, and I want two more, so how much work I have ahead depends on how he ran the wire. I’m hoping for “sanely,” but I would not be surprised to find it’s run at the higher level across the studs.

I do have a corner that has no studs (it’s a concrete wall, again difficult to explain) so I might need to build some kind of support for the drywall in that corner.

I have to figure out the plan for what circuits I want the outlets on. Unfortunately my breaker box is full, and I believe it already has the max number of double breakers allowed by code (not double breakers… two breakers in one slot setups), so just adding a new circuit is out.

I also need to build a frame around the hvac ductwork to attach drywall to. I’ll need a 12’ long 2x4 for that job, plus supports, but those can be smaller.

Anyone know how I can fix this crack/chip on my guest bathroom tub? I’m still working with builder to see if it can be covered with my warranty, but I’d like to be prepared to fix it myself if they don’t. It’s around 2 inches and located on the area where the side and bottom of the tub meet.

Given the nature of bathtubs and how they can invisibly leak until it’s moderately catastrophic, I would lean towards outright replacement.

They make fiberglass tub repair kits. (I’m guessing it’s fiberglass but you may want to check). It won’t look great but it’s probably cheaper than a new tub shell.

I’m becoming more and more a fan of automated lighting. Partly motion detectors, but also home assistant that is monitoring the light levels from a nearby weather station and turns on the lights in the living room (and turns them off 22.30). The same goes for my home office. HA turns on the music when I start my laptop and turns off the music and desk (docking, monitors etc) 5 min after I turned off my laptop.

Said “fuck it”, pulled everything out of the kitchen, scrubbed, repainted. Next time I get an afternoon free I’ll put the trim back up.

Mostly finished the small bathroom. Replaced floor tiling because the old ones became loose, painted the wall tiles because they were ugly, painted the rest of the walls (fake wood) to match the rest. Removing silicone was by far the most bothersome task.

Need to redo some of the silicone and add wood strips where the tiles meet the fake wood plus some little tasks here and there but it’s usable again.

Thanks! My wife found out somehow, most home improvement stores here have specific paint for it but this one is two component stuff from Epodex. Painting is easy, most of the work is preparing the underground.
