My wife is a genius. My wife is on the spectrum but is the opposite of ADHD. He normal state is me maxed out on ADHD meds. Where my ADHD comes in handy is when it is time for her to explain what she is doing or basically have any sort of technical conversation. Her brain goes so fast that she leaves out a ton of context, and when she tries to compensate she gives so much background information that everyone’s eyes glaze over. So my job, as someone who’s been with her for many years and whose brain is always on multiple trains of thought, is to translate for her and ELI5 for those trying to keep up with her.

    Her crazy matches my crazy.
(Deadpool line. None of us are necessarily crazy.)

I’ve got a few ADHD and/or Ausome friends, and we’ve explained our instruction manuals. I know who NEEDS to interrupt because they will forget their point, and my friends know I will take odd tangents and they will follow along. It’s fun to try and work out how I got here.

Yep. Some of my best conversations have been random ADHD people I met at a party. Usually with some normies trying and failing to follow our conversation. And never talk to them again.

I have had a handful of these experiences this summer! 3 of them happen to be family. It’s been a feast after a long famine.

Guys, gals… Just because your brain rips through things faster than a conversation can keep up with, doesn’t mean you have ADHD. Back in the day, this was a marker of intelligence. The source of always being ahead; being able to summon the words perfectly in the moment because so many thoughts covered so many bases before speaking. An enthusiastic, thoughtful, and engaging interaction to anyone interested in the topic.

ADHD is more like, you do that but you can’t pull any of it together because it’s already boring you, so your attention diverts elsewhere.

Don’t confuse enthusiasm with ADHD just because people that can’t keep up say a fast mind or topical passion is now ADHD.

Where we had “nerd” decades ago, “ADHD” and “ASD” are quickly becoming the terms to use by people that feels intellectually vulnerable. Ignore that and keep kicking ass with your super brain. Others can’t be so lucky.

Sure but it’s very possible the OP already knows they have ADHD and also has an issue talking with people without it. I know a few years ago I found a friend who has AuDHD just like I do and we have some of the best conversations because we are both okay with jumping around multiple topics and then jumping back to them if we remember we had something to say about it. And I wouldn’t say that I’m necessarily “bored” by one topic in those convos, moreso that they can remind me of multiple other topics that I need to jump to lest I forget the thought.

My SO cant keep up when my friends and I talk. Bouncing all over from subject to subject and knowing when the other has switched co text.

Then SO asks me why I dont talk to them for a long time on the phone. Its because you dont like when I go off on 30 random topics silly!

My best conversations were with an autistic friend and some other friend I suspect could have ADHD …fun and never ending chats about random stuff, specially about philosophy and politics.
