not being overly optimistic, but I don’t think it is very serious - basically microplastic here are acting as soot or smoke particles and acting as nuclei - they can not be present in large amounts due to weight, so this is just as bad as having smoke in sky - not good by any means but not any worse really.
Smoke is more carcinogenic than microplastics, even. Smoke from coal plants kills around a hundred thousand people per year, while microplastics are more common and have less effect.
