Some are asking: why does privacy-focused Organic Maps use GitHub? The largest open-source contributor network, familiar PR & issue workflow, Actions CI, broad integrations, zero infra to maintain, and easy onboarding/discoverability. This lets us focus on improving the app instead of running and maintaining servers. Development time is the most precious resource nowadays, and most of our users don't care where the code is hosted, but care about the app functionality and usability…
Do you care?
It’s OK. Doesn’t route for traffic and a lot of the places of interest are missing or out of date in my area. Does have features for stuff like semi trucks and large trailers, which is interesting.
It works great for me. I usually make GPX in advance for cycling and just follow it, but choosing navigation as a car avoiding motorways and tolls also works great (at least in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Serbia and Bosnia). If you admit your a bicycle it’ll send you through people’s yards tho, but it’s mostly friendly yards that are supposed to be public walking spaces but someone put some fences.
Last time I checked (years ago admittedly) OSMand didn’t have usable navigation but maybe I should re-check
