  • You do what you can. Doing something, no matter how small, is better than doing nothing.

You do what you can, and no more. Don’t burn yourself out or work yourself into an early grave. Show compassion to yourself.

Ally with people who share your concerns. It’s easier to get things done as a group, and you’ll have support that way. You keep talking to people who don’t care, and that’s ruining your morale. Find people who do care.

  • The way I heard it described is that your brain, just like any other organ, has a function, and that is to produce thoughts. Just like you can’t stop your heart or quit breathing, you can’t stop your brain from thinking. Just like you can do things to speed up or slow down your heartbeat, or breathe more or less air, you can do things that influence your thoughts. But you can’t shut it off entirely.

  • Neurotypicals have difficulty with mindfulness; for folks with ADHD, it’s extremely difficult. You have to sit still and do nothing for an extended period of time, which is a pretty heavy lift for somebody with an attention deficit. But it does help, yes.

One method that I’ve had success with is to work my way up. I do meditation for 1 minute; the next day 2, then 3, until I get to 20, and then I try to stay there. That’s because the most important part is building the habit. Also, doing short sprints frequently is more effective than doing a marathon. 5 minutes a day for 12 days is better than 60 minutes in one day.
