Someone’s gotta do it.

You don’t understand.
It’s not a problem if corporations profit off of it. It’s a problem when they extend a program without giving the public access to those changes.

Why would it say that additional security updates are locked behind ESM even when I’m on a maintained version?

Back when I used Ubuntu, I would always get a message when I logged in telling me that security updates are available, but only through some kind of subscription-based program.
It’s a big reason why I switched to Debian.

You should look into the origins of OS X and CellOS.
Your pathetic rhetoric actively contributes to making people richer than you even richer.
Stop selling yourself out just because it’s easy.

A little bit.
A lot of the Rust remakes are being made by morons who have no problem using weak licenses that favor corporations.
We should hold them accountable and avoid using/contributing to their projects until they switch to a free license.
I’d wager they just have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the free software ecosystem operates.
You could take it as an opportunity to educate them on how distros are cobbled together from software made by different people, most of whom have no affiliation with the distro in question.
