Fediverse@lemmy.ml•PieFed Flagship Instance Shadowbanning Instances from Discoverability & Other Questionable Updates
6·4 days agoMost of it is not all of it, and the fact that there is an actual fork needed shows just how problematic the project is.

11·5 days agoThe trade off is that you end up giving up on a huge chunk of the fediverse at the whims of the developer.

Fediverse@lemmy.ml•PieFed Flagship Instance Shadowbanning Instances from Discoverability & Other Questionable Updates
12·5 days agoWhat’s really funny to me is that liberals consistently preach one thing and then do another in practice. Open debate and the whole market of ideas is at the core of liberal ideology. Yet, whenever liberals don’t have the dominant position, they immediately reach for censorship breaking precisely the one principle they claim differentiates them from their ideological adversaries.

14·5 days agoVery well put, the fact that they have to go to such length to lock people into their bubble shows that deep down they know their ideology has no staying power, and can only be sustained through coercive measures.
In terms of developing an alternative, I don’t really see that of itself as a negative necessarily though. You might want to just play around to learn how this stuff works, use a different technology stack, or try out some new ideas in terms of UX. The real issue in my opinion is with all the dark patterns in piefed.

17·5 days agoSerious question, why do people even bother with piefed at this point. Also, I’m not really against libs creating their own bubble if that means they stop being obnoxious all across the fediverse.
I love how it’s basically a list of all the mainstream non western outlets.
Yes, it’s very important to remind people what sort of a troll Rimu really is.
You’re the single biggest troll in the fediverse. Congrats on the dedication to the bit you’re doing.
The whole piefed thing has to be a bit right?

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Anthropic joins the Blender Development Fund as Corporate Patron
4·17 days agoExactly, taking over a large existing codebase is a herculean task. So, most forks just end up adding superficial changes on top and keeping upstream code as is.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Anthropic joins the Blender Development Fund as Corporate Patron
6·17 days agoThe reality is far more complicated than that. Maintaining a large project takes a lot of work in practice, and you can’t just fork it and expect the fork to magically succeed. There are very few examples of such successful forks in the wild.

8·26 days agoI don’t really agree with the attention to detail part from my experience. AI agents love to take shortcuts from what I’ve seen, and you have to pay a lot of attention to what they’re doing to make sure they do the right thing.
