SMB on MacOS has had performance issues for a long, long time. It doesn’t implement SMB very well, and all the Samba hackery people need to go through to work around it is basically just lived with. rsync is much better because of this.

It’s too bad the GPU prices are utter insanity due to the LLM pyramid scheme poaching global RAM. I read an article yesterday that said Apple is likely eating that RAM overhead as a loss to ensure their long term strategy.

While I agree, my point was that encoding needs to be more efficient, both in time, and resource consumption. That isn’t quite there yet, for AV1. It is improving, albeit slowly.

Better hardware encoder support would help, too. It’s insanely inefficient to encode without that dedicated hardware, compared to h264/h265, where dedicated hardware support is there.

I was hoping Apple would add it when they shipped the M4, and now M5, but nope.

The best way to ensure privacy is by not buying spying equipment in the first place. Ring and Flock are two sides of the same coin, where Ring is driven by consumer choice, and Flock is just outright insidious. They both serve the same goal, and it isn’t public safety.

I upgraded o an RTX5050 just before all the prices skyrocketed. Glad I did, and also glad I didn’t go for the higher end cards at the time. I’ve been quite impressed at the stability and graphics quality while dipping into Linux gaming.

Their marketing spin is such BS. Trying to say that the amount of rework needed for apps to provide a wonderful experience, etc. Those apps already have that “wonderful” experience in Windows 10, Microsoft just cut corners in a redesign and power users are rightfully pissed off.

The only requirement of yours it doesn’t hit is “decentralized”, since you’d likely be self-hosting it. If you’re looking to host git repos, you’re likely technical enough to fire up a foregjo container in Docker and go wild with it. Just make sure you have a plan for backups, and you’re good.

1-2/day, using the default 2-minute routine. I do not leave it on the charger after using it. I only charge when it does the little vibrate pattern indicating a need to.

I’ve had a Philips Sonicare brush for ten years at this point. Do they just not make them well anymore, or did I just luck out? I only need to charge it like once very month or two.
