I’m weary of the slippery slope fallacy embedded in your reply, I’m not sure if using some AI often results quality to fall out the window.

Also I don’t really trust any new projects to be maintained for a long time, unless I trust the developer(s) have a clear commitment to supporting it in the long term.

this project (configarr) is one I’ve been using in myself-hosted setup clearly uses AI to help with development, although I’m not sure to what extent. It’s been maintained consistently for 2 years.

Avoiding using brand new programs has worked quite well for me not being left with unmaintained software so far.

Using AI isn’t just a sign of laziness. I don’t see an issue with using the tools available to do something in less time than usual. If a program is vibe coded then of course it’s usually going to be of bad quality, but if it’s a mix of human and human checked AI then it can still be a high quality project.

That goes for AI and human made software. You should only use security critical software that is trusted by the community.

I don’t have an issue with this. If it’s AI you can usually tell, if you can’t tell then it’s not slop and it’s fine to use.

I think gimp is great software, maybe you just haven’t given it enough of a shot to learn it.

I will be extremely surprised if this comes anywhere near gimp. AI is not at the stage were is can create amazing software all by itself. It will likely be buggy and/or feature incomplete.

This is very cool! I like the idea of atomic distros although I haven’t really gotten into them much, if you keep on working on this project I might join it.

Question: I’m a bit confused about the package management system you talked about. Flatpaks for user level packages? What about the official arch repo and the AUR? I know other atomic distro’s don’t really work with traditional package managers, what does this mean for Pu-239? If there’s no AUR then there is no Arch Linux at least for me.

Also that name could probably do with some work lol. Maybe work on a shorthand way of spelling it and a better way to pronounce it? I’m not sure.

This is why we should call it “bleeding edge” rather than “unstable” it’s a much more accurate name and it exemplifies the advantages (albeit leaving out the (minor) disadvantages)

I guess the base version of windows is relatively ok but Microsoft Office and Overdrive/SharePoint are both completely unusable. Which is insane considering they are industry standards.

Although Linux seems to be generally much more stable in my experience. Of course it depends on the distro.

WARNING they may suffer from less bugs, less annoying updates, better performance, less spyware and functional package management.

Before anyone says anything I am aware there are trade-offs due to switching from what you know.

Just wanted to add, when I’m travelling I very much enjoy it when a town has up to date cafes/restaurants. That’s why my highest priority when I contributing to OSM is adding cafe/restaurant information.
