I think I remember similar headlines for PS3
I’ve never really followed X (nor Twitter), Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, etc. so I basically live under a rock. Sometimes I ask dumb questions to try to understand people a little better. Apologies if my questions inadvertently offend anyone. I mean no harm.

That’s… maybe not the greatest screenshot to use if you want to support them. The nearly invisible, black-on-dark-blue heading kinda makes it look vibe coded

This is cursed but I like it.

I’ve been pretty happy with Peergos
Happy cake day 🙂

Depending on which flag, either Tails or Gentoo
I just realized something: When I search for something in Lemmy and get zero results, I sometimes go to Reddit and search there.
It would probably be better to make a new post in Lemmy about the thing I’m searching for. It would add content to Lemmy, and the content would be newer and fresher than the Reddit results that are sometimes 10+ years old.
I’m still kinda surprised to hear that people are still having trouble with Nvidia drivers. I would have thought that Nvidia would have decided to improve that because of the AI boom. I wonder why they continue being so bad at this 🤔

That raises more questions than it answers 😅 I appreciate the effort though.
I run NixOS on a few servers. I remember there being some controversy around them accepting contributions (either money or code — my memory of it is a little fuzzy) from some company that’s part of the military industrial complex. Is Framework worse than that?

Is it ethically unsafe to use? Do they make money when people use it? Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, I’m surely missing a lot of context

What difference would that make? (I’m not familiar with the precedent, so probably missing some context)

Sure! It’s completely solid-state; no fans or other moving parts. The case is designed to dissipate the heat. The CPU is some low-power Intel Pentium. I don’t remember exactly which model.
I ordered a pre-built one from Protectli because I needed it fast, but you can save quite a bit if you prefer to build one. These little motherboards and cases can be found pretty easily online.

I went with a dedicated mini PC with one of those motherboards that are designed for building a network appliance. It has been running very smoothly for a few years, and I just log in occasionally to run system updates.
I want my network and Internet connection to continue working, regardless of my tinkering with home server stuff.

Oops, that’s what I get for being on my phone hours after I should have gone to sleep. I’m an idiot at those hours lol

Indeed. I assumed that was obvious when I wrote it, but thanks for confirming.

Only nine now? That’s so much better than it used to be!
When I first tried Linux (Mandrake, many years ago), I could probably come up with 9 problems in just the first hour 😆
It’s easy to find nine problems in Windows too, so this is pretty good for a free OS, IMO. It’s great to see Linux gradually become more mainstream (aside from Android and servers)
Edit: I’m a dumbass lol

Can it access a file without spinning up all disks in the array?
I haven’t used ZFS in like a decade, but would strongly consider going back to it if it can do that now.
I used a mini PC (from Minisforum) for my home server for a while. It worked great— until it didn’t. It just suddenly shut off forever without any warning signs or anything. No signs of life. I confirmed that the power supply and memory were fine. The only option is to find a replacement motherboard (and CPU/GPU since it’s an APU soldered onto the motherboard).
I ended up just building a PC to replace it. I don’t recommend a mini PC for this purpose.
