No lie, they’re awesome. I’ve got two R720s, and they really aren’t bad. I leave one off. The other runs 4-5 VMs and doesn’t spin loud at all. Lack rack, surplus drives, a refurbed UPS and it just goes.

I have all the services on one machine and use proxmox backup server on the other one. It’s nice. I’ve got emergency configuration files etc backed up on the nas as well.

That’s why there are 6. There’s a pool with a hot spare. Just don’t want to pay $350 or whatever to replace a $90 drive.

E waste bins or eBay. A Dell D630 will run services just fine if you just install Debian command line, just add some cheap DDR2 memory.

Plex may also be harvesting your data. When I used it years ago it was already trying to send logs back home, blocked by the firewall.

I’ve got pfsense on a VM, works great. Opnsense is good too and easier to deal with than digging out a download from Netgate, but doesn’t have pfblocker integrated.
