  • I am nowhere close to be as smart as him or people like him, but I abandoned a project because of sloppy massive PRs and started refusing to put my name / approval on most PRs at work also because of the same thing, I am the tech person who stayed the most here and not gonna waste my time reviewing slop for others to take credit (just push it with Claude, dev XX will review it properly before it hits prod).

The decline started, but I will keep protecting my side in this company while I am here. I use LLMs occasionally (so I am not going against management trying to make us more productive) to type less, or extract smaller snippets, … but the change is 100% what I had in mind and I hold myself 100% responsible for the output.

  • Lovely!

I wanted to fork too but wanted a more carefully planned one (avoid reverting the new time utility names in case they will be re-used in the future & to make syncing newer changes from upstream straightforward otherwise it will not be a one-to-one replacement)

I would love to help with your fork, allocate a worker to build a binary from the CI, create an AUR package (I already studied the systemd arch package a little bit), start using the fork and hopefully with some PRs too. Discord is blocked where I am so it would be cool to have a matrix group / space for this effort and let’s see how far we can push this. Because if this doesn’t work, I will be moving to Artix or Gentoo 100%

  • Yep, I am suggesting to not try at all until they make it clear how am I going to comply? which will lead to “I am not gonna put any resources into this feel free to fork it and do that”. We agree it’s stupid-ass but we need to help them understand that.

Like prepare a reply why I didn’t put age verification into my custom Arch .iso from now rather than find solutions for them. They also have to block my website and torrents somehow, not me having to geo block other struggling souls like myself sitting somewhere else (I don’t even put captcha in my websites, just a rate limiting value that a normal person would never be able to reach).

  • No dude, nobody asked for this law, it was lobbied by Facebook / Meta and doesn’t protect anyone, the compliance burden shouldn’t fall on the devs (who happen to be volunteers most of the time), they made a law, they have to figure out how to apply it (like I said in my over down-voted comment: hire a group of devs to fork everything, add the restrictions then convince your citizens to switch so they are compliant)
