i never understood why my Government in Australia doesn’t have a tech division a Linux version to use, Libre Office software etc a messenger service, an email and a Mastodon instance. Doesn’t mean you have to use them by the Governments should and be available to all including our Oceania brothers if they wish including funding them.
Giving up digital sovereignty is beyond my understanding, let alone hosting Government. and financial services on foreign owned cloud services.

i can walk to my small local library here in rural Australia and luckly my local taxes (rates) pay for it. I can also use the Overdrive App to borrow and read my library books on my Kobo. I walk down once a fortnight and get a book or three out even if I don’t read them, chat to the librarian etc
Its only a tinu library but they can get in whatever I want from all over the state. I.also don’t own a printer and use theres for the occasional print job at 20c a page.
Android ran out of desserts.

i put stuff on a nextcloud (a paid hosting) and sync via that eg my Joplin data etc. I don’t use Syncthing. I have nothing against Syncthing, I have just not needed it.
I also occasionally use LocalSend to transfer one off files, but KDE connect has plenty of options in that respect as well.

there are two types of USb-c to 3.5mm dongle afaiak, to do with providing power. Try a cheap one, no harm no foul? it will either work or it won’t, it won’t damage anything
this was me from Vista to 10, swore every time i’d do it, endless dual boots with Ubuntu that lasted a couple days.
3 years ago with 11 looming, I took the plunge and grabbed a new nvme, installed Mint, made sure it booted and I could use FF, then reformatted my Windows drive and installed LMDE and have been using that ever since. The rest of it I just muddled through, mostly still muddling though.
First Windows was 3.1 at work, MS Dos prior to that both on top of Netware as the default IT guy but used an Amiga 1200 at home (from a C64, to Amiga 1000 to 1200.
The CLI is bullshit as the default for near everything, it’s not 1990 anymore. It should be there but eg the dick around I had installing Signal on my desktop as the Flatpak is some not authorized version , same with my VPN, what a fuck around needing Nord themselves to diagnose it, having the default boot drive fill up with what seems like a zillion kernels and need to delete them on my laptop etc etc
still have zero chance of going back to Windows but I get the ipad generation steering away from Linux.
