Linux@lemmy.ml•General resolution: LLM usage in Debian: First call for votes: corrected ballot
21·2 months agoYeah, no matter the truth content of this piece of tinfoil, the vote I linked shows that systemd continued being agreeable among voters.
The handful of conspiracy myth believers are now on Devuan if that still exists. Presumably mad about something else that exists only in their head.

Linux@lemmy.ml•General resolution: LLM usage in Debian: First call for votes: corrected ballot
5·2 months agoWhere did you pull that number from? https://vote.debian.org/~secretary/gr_initsystems/results.txt
The smallest difference between a systemd option and a “not-only-systemd option” I see is
Option 2 defeats Option 4 by ( 211 - 177) = 34 votes.
And bear in mind that condorcet selects the most agreeable option, not just the majority option.
And it makes sense: the most likely contender at the time was upstart, which didn’t stand the test of time AFAIK (I don’t think the systemd hater crowd still uses that)
So it ended up the right decision. Would they have decided differently if other good init systems had existed already? Maybe, but they didn’t.
Of course retirement is normal, societies have taken care of the elderly and infirm, people with disabilities of any kind, children, and so on.
Are you kidding?

Linux@lemmy.ml•[Tool] Privacy-focused AUR Malware Audit Tool (Atomic Arch Incident)
2·4 months agoI’m an Arch user. I check the diffs when I update a package. I won’t do anything as I’m obviously not compromised.
I’m a little sad that GitHub actions uses the cron scheduling grammar. A YAML dictionary with a similar set of keys like systemd timers would have been so much better, especially with autocomplete

Linux@lemmy.ml•Systemd v261-rc1 is out with the 'birth date field'
72·5 months agoYour conspiracy myth is wrong, and if you actually care about what’s true, you can confirm what I say very easily for yourself:
Just go to the mailing list archives and forums and follow the decision making discussions of the time. E.g. Arch Linux. This will quickly and decisively convince you that “big tech” had nothing to do with it.
But you don’t care about the truth, do you? You just want the comfortable position of being able to look down on all the mainstream fools.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Systemd v261-rc1 is out with the 'birth date field'
105·5 months agoIf you criticize something because of perceived bloat, maybe don’t make it the mouse in your metaphor.
And no, it’s a great init system that has all the features one wants. That’s why it ended up taking over: it was the first really good init system that introduced actual dependencies and so on.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Systemd v261-rc1 is out with the 'birth date field'
99·5 months agoThese aren’t serious. Their mission statements are nothing but childish contrariness.
E.g. Artix has a “no true Scotsman” right in their tagline about “real” init system. Only 14 year old master debaters will attempt to deny that systemd is a “real” init system with a straight face.
