I like Fedora and Debian a lot, but update fatigue drove me crazy with Fedora in particular. I know I don’t HAVE to update everyday, but if they’re available I can’t help myself. I like how calm and still Debian feels in comparison. I’m running mostly Debian 13 now days and I’m going to try holding out the full 2 years before the next version. It’ll be a bit of a marathon as I read about all these new features every 6 months.

And if you find one for cheap enough it probably doesn’t matter. Personally, I’d rather just build a SFF PC with a mini-ITX board. It’ll be slightly bigger than a NUC, but at least the parts are all off the shelf and replaceable when something inevitably goes wrong.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommended mini linux device for streaming to TVEnglish3·1 month agoBad thermal management. Too much heat for too small of space without enough cooling.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommended mini linux device for streaming to TVEnglish21·1 month agoMy experience with Intel NUCs is that longevity is their greatest weakness. Usually burn themselves out in a few years. Prospects for repair being slim. I’m not sure if Pis are any better, but I haven’t been impressed.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English4·1 month agoI have not! I’ll have to look into it. I appreciate the suggestion. I thought Mint also had snaps stripped out. I don’t exactly love snaps, but they can also be kind of nice from a user experience perspective. I’d prefer if Ubuntu used Flatpaks instead, but beggars can’t be choosers.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English4·1 month agoNope. Red Hat is as close as you’ll get. Maybe CentOS Stream but I’ve never tried it. Debian is workable with some tweaking but at scale that becomes a little annoying. If Ubuntu ever broke a workflow with their changes, I would 100% offer Debian as an option.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English6·1 month agoI love Fedora, but it’s way too chaotic and shit breaks all the time. Maybe break is the wrong word, but it’s too unstable for the type of users I’m talking about at least. I already explained my reasons for Debian. Mint could win me over, but I’m not quite there yet.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English4·1 month agoI’ve been encouraged by 12 and 13 making progress towards out of the box usability. But it still takes too much tweaking to make it work smoothly for desktop users at scale. This isn’t a shot at Debian by the way. I use it on at least some of my own machines. Just have a hard time recommending it depending on the situation.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English4·1 month agoHell yeah makes sense. I get where you’re coming from. Just throwing that question out into the universe half expecting to get flamed lol.
djsaskdja@reddthat.comto Linux@programming.dev•sudo-rs Is Now The Default sudo Of Ubuntu 25.10English9·1 month agoIs there a good alternative to Ubuntu that’s deployment ready for a small to medium business that doesn’t require paying for support like Red Hat? I don’t use it on my own machines, but when I’m working with clients it’s pretty much all I recommend. I could maybe be won over by Mint, but I’m still a little skeptical about the polish and reliability there.

You can turn off canvas fingerprinting or any added feature with a single checkbox. I used to feel the same way about LibreWolf, but once I familiarized myself with the different settings, it became clearly the superior option if you value privacy. I also set my Firefox settings strictly, but then they added new “features” and turned them on by default. That was the last straw for me.

Hmmm didn’t even realize OpenSUSE Slowroll was a thing. Kind of an intriguing idea. I looked into and read somewhere it’s in the experimental stage. Is that still true or is that outdated information?
