I’m not sure how Ansible made it on your list. Ansible lets you apply configuration and ensure applications are installed on groups of machines. It works across a variety of Linux distros.

I recommend this too. I’m using kubernetes for other stuff, but HAOS for Home Assistant. Super easy to manage. And it works great on small, appliance machines (I’m using Home Assistant Green).

I wholeheartedly support this rule change. Hardware is a big part of selfhosting/home labs. And for some people, it’s a hard leap to make.

Which logs did you look at already?
If you’re using journalctl, I think you should have shutdown messages in the log. You might need to filter by the previous boot for them though (https://linuxhandbook.com/journalctl-boot-logs/).
For dmesg, you might have old, rotated logs from previous boots in your /var/logs folder.
I’d expect any logs around power management to end up in one or both of those places.
You could also try manually triggering a suspend or hibernate to see what happens. I remember having a machine that would suspend fine, but if it was suspended too long, it would hibernate. And for some reason it didn’t know how to come back up after a hibernate.
In an enterprise setting, you shouldn’t trust the server firewall. You lock that down with your network equipment.

That doesn’t protect you from accidentally exposing ports, but it helps make it more obvious when it happens.
If this needed a permit + inspection, that could be a good route to getting the contractor to fix the work. Or having it inspected by the engineer.
Also, if you have a trusted third party fail the inspection and the contractor doesn’t fix it, you have good documentation for whatever next step you take (court, refusing payment, etc).
