What’s better with a drop down terminal vs a normal terminal invoked with global short key?

It’s a genuine question, never heard about drop down terminal and looked it up. As I understand they are just normal terminal with a visual effect when they open. Am I missing something?

I would add it’s often more up to date than distro repositories. It is especially nice when you have long been awaiting a feature and it’s finally available.
