Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Deck] A Linux Power User Puts SteamOS To Work
241·6 months agoWell, no one ever needs computers either.
That’s what package managers are for, though. Or add the GitHub repo to your RSS reader if you want the details.
Lemmy is a social media, like others have mentioned in this thread I don’t mind this type of post nearly as much if the person posting adds their opinion/analysis/summary.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Intel Compute Sticks - Making them useful (or fun)?
4·9 months agoGet a distro running XFCE, slap the Chicago95 theme on it, and try to convince your friends that their computer updated to the latest version of Windows.
Seriously, those beers would have to be like 20% ABV to avoid freezing.

You don’t need 5 posts a day for a community to survive here. There’s not that many people on Lemmy, things are a bit slower paced.
I mod !bicycles@lemmy.ca and we’d be lucky to have one post per day, yet I think it’s still a relatively healthy community, with a decent amount of engagement on most posts.

Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•What are the "app dock" apps on your phone? Are they FOSS?
2·1 year agoIf I were having high-stakes conversations, I might agree, but any slight delays in updates is unlikely to affect me. I’m not a high-stakes target of any sort.

Getting stoned and getting the magic rocks in my homelab to do my bidding is one of my favourite ways to use up my time on this Earth.

9·1 year agoI like Fluent Reader, it looks nice, can fetch full articles, and IIRC caches them locally for offline viewing, don’t quote me on that last one though.

10·1 year agoI got a new job, and the group chat is on WhatsApp, so I’m looking into running a Synapse server with a bridge to it. I really don’t want to have to use Meta’s apps on my phone.
From what I’ve read so far, it seems like it’s going to be the most convoluted install process I’ll have encountered in my self-hosting journey. I’m excited to tackle it, but also a bit overwhelmed. Which is why I’ve been putting it off :P
For anyone wondering, lemm.ee is hosted in Finland, as per this post by the admin.
Any ports used in docker will be open on your computer and accessible to any device in your network.
However, to open up a port to the internet, you’d have to do port-forwarding on your router. If you haven’t done that, any incoming connections will just be dropped at the router-level.

71·1 year ago“Public benefit corporation” is such an oxymoron, I know it’s cliché to say this but it reads like something out of 1984.
If your goal is truly to benefit the public, why wouldn’t you start a non-profit? It’s because they want profits, which will always be at odds with the interests of the public.

Fluent Reader was my stopping point when looking for a good desktop RSS reader. I’d rather a non-Electron-based app, but hey,
