Technology@lemmy.zip•OnlyOffice invokes AGPLv3, says Nextcloud must restore removed logos in Euro-Office forkEnglish
26·2 months agoNextcloud tried to work with OnlyOffice, but they refused and don’t look at any PR’s
So Nextcloud forked it and created EuroOffice. Now OnlyOffice is pissed

2·2 months agoThat’s exactly what I’m doing, check out my GitHub repo I linked.
I’m friends with a DevOps engineer who has a similar repo, and he said it landed him his last two jobs.

1·2 months agoThey way I see it is just that they’ve made sure you’ve got propper drivers, and that you won’t have to worry over driver issues, even from day 1

2·2 months agoDid some reading, yea you’re right.
So many of the containers run in K8s are built with docker, but the containers themselves aren’t docker.
I think many people (like I used to 10min ago) think that docker = some-kind-of-container.
Best plain-English version:
Kubernetes is an orchestrator:
- Docker Engine and Podman are container engines.
- Kubernetes used to support Docker Engine via dockershim, but that support was removed in v1.24.
- Kubernetes now talks to runtimes like containerd or CRI-O.
- You can still build images with Docker and run them on Kubernetes, but Kubernetes is not “using Docker under the hood” in the old sense anymore.

As your article said, you don’t NEED to use docker.
But in many cases you do use docker, many of the containers I run are docker containers

2·2 months agoAlso K8s come with a LOT of other benefits almost all big systems run on K8s, you can view all your logs in once place, you can manage all your app versions and upgrades in one place, you can automate app upgrades and backups etc in one place. You can setup alerts for when services have issues or warnings etc.

7·2 months agoK8s uses docker under the hood, once you have 3 nodes, you can plug out one of the nodes and the whole system will recover and all your services stay up.
I had a SSD fail on me and it brought down Immich and Nextcloud, then they were down for like a week while I did troubleshooting and ordered a new SSD.
Once my 3rd node is up, if a SSD fails I will just get a notification that my cluster is degraded, and I can investigate it while everything stays working.
It’s gross overkill for a homelab, but it’s fun to build and setup.

Yes I know I use GitHub and Cloudflare, it’s a marathon not a sprint and perfection is the enemy of progress.
So if you came to the comments to scream at me for using GitHub/Cloudflare, please first see This

Linux@lemmy.ml•FSF on OnlyOffice/EuroOffice: You cannot use the GNU (A)GPL to take software freedom awayEnglish
2·2 months agoThey aren’t forking US tech because the US tech doesn’t pretend to be open source, so they can’t fork them.
The are building Euro-Office specifically to stop reliance on US tech though, it’s not targeted at once nation, it’s targeted at all nations that try to control tech. Which is mostly the US.
IDK what tangent you’re going on with the other things you’ve said, that’s off topic.
But yea India, like all nations, shouldn’t rely on foreign tech for infrastructure.

3·2 months agoI don’t think people are discriminating against Russians. They just recognize that we can’t depend on Russian tech.
Most people don’t have issues with Russians, Americans, Chinese etc.
But fuck all three those countries, and we should not rely on either of their tech, and cut out dependencies on their tech, especially in the government sector.

181·2 months agoIf all they do is force OnlyOffice to no longer use the AGPL3 liscence (or remove those restrictions)
That would damage their brand permanently, they main reason people use OO is because the pretend to be FOSS.
Many of their customers would start looking for alternatives

FSS are the creators or AGPL3, aka. The liscence OnlyOffice is released under.
FSS made a statement/blog-post to say the restrictions OnlyOffice added are illegitimate and not in accordance with AGPL3.
OO isn’t just asking for attribution they are asking two things.
Do you see the problem, it’s not just attribution
