Oooh that’s so cool, I’m actually going next summer for a wedding anyway, might as well combine it with a nice camping trip!
Interesting! It always seemed like more. I have a friend who lives in Vancouver, and he did say that camping in the wild was kinda scary with all the predators there. But he’s born and raised in Europe, so I figured that was why it was too daunting for him.
Being chronically ill and clinically depressed does the trick for me (though I’ve never slept for 24 hours straight, I wake up hungry after 12ish hours and go back to sleep after eating).
Camping not being stimulating is one of the nicest sounding things about north America. Here in Europe, everywhere is so densely populated that you can’t just camp everywhere. You have to go to a campsite. Wildlife has sparse enough space as is, so it makes sense that you can’t just pitch a tent in their habitat.
And campsites are always so full of strangers. Not relaxing or understimulating at all. Kinda wish I could just go out into the wild and pitch a tent and be by myself the way north Americans seem to do. Sounds super relaxing.

Schön, dass du das Privileg hast. Das macht dich aber wieder zu einem besseren noch zu einem schlechteren Menschen als jene, die es nicht haben.
I fucking love Ubuntu. Have been on it for about 5 years now. It just works AND doesn’t spy or advertise. Nobody has ever been able to convince me it gets better than that. I don’t need stuff to be difficult to prove to myself I’m smart.

I mean, it’s not just herd mentality. I’m just not willing to lock myself out of relationships because of my principles. It’s not my fault my mum can’t be convinced to ditch Whatsapp for signal. Not willing to give up communication with her.
Herd mentality would be if you did a thing because others do it even if there wouldn’t be any loss from switching to a better thing. It’s more complex if you’d lose out a great deal from the switch.
And anyway, my comment was mostly about not potentially inflicting causes of your trauma on others. Because that is what usually happen when people fear not being in control… they try to control others once they have the means to do so.
You don’t see how that’s not a very nice thing to say to someone that just said they have complex trauma?
Where is the assumption? I was almost literally quoting you.
Look, I’m not going to convince you in a Lemmy comment chain. I just hope you can show a bit more empathy for different lived experiences in real life.
Please reread my comment: I said IF that’s what you mean! I’m asking because youre explaining to other commentators how they should overcome their need for their own spaces. Also, that the need to control yourself usually leads to wanting to control others is false and a pretty mean thing to say to someone who said they feel the need to have control over themselves. Trauma does NOT make me a bad person, thank you very much. We’re people too, you know. We’re capable of empathy and of working on ourselves.
Working on it, but I’ll still be autistic and introverted. Are you assuming anyone can and should overcome the need to be alone? That would be quite ableist.
I’m like the person you’re replying to, and for me it’s very much just introversion and autism, plus a lot of complex trauma about my body and life being controlled by others.

They can be helpful if you view them light heartedly as anonymous support groups where you can vent real quick. Not as actual qualified resources.
