My economics teacher once told us he will tell us how to “optimize” our taxes. One of my classmates was happy to learn how to “dodge taxes” to what they were scolded. They then asked whats the difference, the answer was “optimizing taxes” is legal, and “dodging taxes” is not.
They asked whats the difference in anything but name.
Guess what, the answer is “you can tell yourself you are less of an asshole for not paying your share”
avoidance is legal. evasion is illegal. i say avoision.
I feel like it could with the right structures and incentives but who knows. What if you have multiple investigative and prosecutorial bodies that are tasked with overseeing each other?
I really hope this is satire.
Nah I’m just musing. It might well be a bad idea but I thought it would be interesting to talk about even if it is.
Here we call that ‘checks and balances’. it’s usually a punch line these days. A system of coercive power will ways direct its violence outwards.
