As municipalities contract with large waste haulers to comply with a California composting law, local composters say they’re being driven out of business.
That is the same way politicians in South Fl. do to look good, by hiring huge corporations, when can easily just create local neighborhoods doIng this themselves & regulate them, all most all cases not as good for The Environment. Newly elected Mayor of one of the counties, I (not the lamestream news challenges that did whole segments, on her plan) contacted pointed the above out & that the monopoly corporation she was talking up used tons of plastic, instead easily recycled metal & huge dump trucks traveling great distances. Since I do not live in Ag. & Unincorporated area/cannot vote for her, no one ever got back to me.
And? Look, it’s cool what they were doing, but THEY WON. They got awareness out, got it legislated, and now it’s being done on a scale that is more sustainable than tiny Mom and Pop businesses can manage.
They literally got what they were asking for, but… checks notes they’re upset because their capitalistic dream part of it is being crushed? That they didn’t get to become the kingpins of this particular industry? Oh no. Heaven forbid we do what they wanted to such a scale that they couldn’t keep up anymore.
You just can’t win.
Businesses as a rule will always rush to ignore caution during setup and then will kill or consume all competition when they become established. But the little guy can’t compete with the state - no way to kill it or starve it of money. the next best thing the business can do is lie or play the victim.
