I loved DoW, played the main game and all the expansions.

DoW II didn’t scratch the same itch, and I only played it partway through. The focus on squad leaders/main characters with abilities on cool downs instead of mostly automated squad abilities made it a bit more tedious.

Skipped DoW III as it looked similar to II.

I’m getting an impression from the game play at the end that it is closer to the first one. Am I missing any details that hint that it would be closer to the micromanaging of II?

Look, DoW II wasn’t my favorite game either, but if you compare it to the atrocity of DoW III again, I’m gonna have to kick your ass

I only really remember playing Retribution. I have vague memories of being told to not buy 3 because it was bad, but ah brain soup.

My main memories of Retribution was “Ah I am an ork, the orkiest ork, and I have gained a hat”

Wait, it’s not made by Relic? Didn’t Relic get back control of DoW from Sega when they went independent?

Seems to me that Games Workshop owns the IP and licensed it to Relic (and others, apparently).

Yeah, but Sega had the license for a while. I assumed Relic retained the license when they left Sega and became independent.

That is unless the license expired and went back to GW.

All I want is a nice “The last stand” mode.

While I like building fat bases in other games, I think the shift in DOW II, focused on controlling mission points and only small bases, was pretty good in terms of matching the lore.

I love Warhammer universe. Why is nearly every video game licensed for WH utter dog shit?

The last really fun one was Fire Warrior was that ps2? And on ps4 the first person give ganger one. Really enjoyed those a lot. Bit is so hard to get hyped on new WH video games when most of them are garbage

So… you haven’t played Space Marine 2? Or Darktide? Or Mechanicus? Or Shootas, Blood, and Teef? Or hell even Battlesector (it’s basically just the board game but in video form)? Because they’ve actually come out with some bangers in the last 5-10 years

Its because Games Workshop are happy to license it to basically anyone.

So there’s been a lot of slop, but also some really high quality titles like DoW1/2, Total War WH, Vermintide, Darktide and more.

Wow, either you’ve not played a bunch of the excellent Warhammer games that have come out over the last decade or we really disagree on what makes a good game!

What sort of things have you played?
