They can also choose to intentionally make slightly less money if there’s something they want to do first, or spend resources/time on stuff that doesn’t bring in revenue. In a publicly traded company, the investors can sue for mishandling their investment.
There seems to be a significant quality gap between publicly traded and private gaming companies.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Mastodon says its flagship server was hit by a DDoS attackEnglish
671·3 months agoAt least Mastodon is properly federated. The benefits of decentralization sort of make this a waste of money/resources, right?
I remember when this was happening to Lemmy all the time too.

Linux@programming.dev•Steam On Linux Use Skyrocketed In March - More Than Double The macOS Gaming Marketshare
21·4 months agoI don’t know if I’m just seeing more of it because I switched to Linux myself, but it certainly feels like Linux has taken a giant step toward the mainstream recently.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•I Made a Video About the FediverseEnglish
5·4 months agoI truly think most people would be receptive to the idea if they could just hear about it. The big corporate sites have so many problems.
Our two biggest obstacles in my opinion: a) the “instances” setup is mildly confusing for new users. b) Once you get here, the predominant culture is pretty homogenous and, to put it politely, politically intense.

6·7 months agoI’m running PopOS and Debian with Nvidia cards that should be affected by this, if I’m understanding this right. Ugh.
What a pain.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•8BitDo announces it's controllers now have Steam/SteamOS compatibility
2·1 year agoI just connect with Bluetooth like normal, and then in steam you can tell it to treat it like whatever type of controller layout you want: switch, xbox, playstation, etc.

421·1 year agoI’ve been using these for years, including with my docked steam deck, and they already work great.
I also wonder what they could’ve changed.

99·1 year agoWhat a loss. =(
It’s a strange quirk of lemmy that we will continue to be able to see content from lemm.ee even after they’ve shut down. It’ll feel like seeing ghosts.

2·1 year agoI loved the demo and would also highly recommend the game solely based on that.
I’m just waiting for a free weekend to pick up the game now that it’s out.

581·1 year agoIt’s the social media equivalent of supporting a bunch of Mom and Pop shops (or opening your own!) vs some hyper-sanitized, corporate monstrosity like Wal-Mart.
Part of it seems to stem from people’s excitement to infodump about how federated social media works.
That’s relevant and interesting to learn about, but the average person just needs to hear “make and account here and start browsing memes” first.
Have you considered CrossFit?

0·2 years agoAbsolutely. People want there to be a fair trade-off, but life just doesn’t work that way. I’ve seen similar romanticization of autism too, especially with the “savants”.
