Fediverse@lemmy.world•How do I get a circle on mastodon (or any other non-thread social media)English
2·1 day agoAntennas are really a feature Mastodon is missing.
When I use Mastodon, I switch to Phanpy.social to have a slight better UI, but otherwise Sharkey/IceShrimp are really much better.

4·1 day agoI use Antennas on Sharkey / IceShrimp to be able to find content I’m interested in.
But I usually prefer the Threadiverse format.

8·1 day agoIs there a way to contact the admin?
It’s usually recommended to have a Matrix account or another Lemmy/Piefed community to be able to get news in this kind of scenario

2·2 days agoYes, that’s correct. The combining different communities is done via “feeds”, you can create your own or subscribe to preexisting ones

4·2 days agoTo be honest that’s a problem that can’t be solved by tooling, it’s a human issue.
I know why there is
If people don’t want to consolidate similar communities and just keep them existing next to each other then users have to figure out the differences (sometimes there are almost none) between two communities.

6·2 days agoMlem is an iOS client.
Crosspost comments consolidation has to happen in the default UI for everyone to be able to use it

4·4 days agoWe have today more than 500 XEPs that standardize most of the core features of all the social interactions we can have online. And we are working actively on what is missing. 😉
No wonder inter-client interoperability can be sub-optimal https://piefed.zip/c/privacy/p/763572/looking-for-a-federated-alternative-to-signal-as-they-might-have-to-comply-with-chatcontro

5·4 days agoI found the demo instance: https://campground.bonfire.cafe/
Regarding the project itself, it’s supposed to be a mix of Mastodon/Piefed/Nextcloud
It kind of reminds of comments people made about “APub should not try to replicate corporate platforms, and just have the content available for everyone, then let the front-ends present it in different ways” in this thread: https://piefed.zip/c/fediverse/p/779852/is-pixelfed-sawing-off-the-branch-that-the-fediverse-is-sitting-on#post_replies
The execution however is less than ideal.

14·4 days agoBonfire seems like a very good project, I like the philosophy behind it (beyond platforms, like some criticism raised recently), but it’s a bit concerning that none of the instances seem to have any active users: https://bonfire.fediverse.observer/list
Edit: found two:

Sorry, I wanted to say “it should happen server-side with an API so that both web UI and apps can use it”
