This along with the comments only reinforced my impression that the point of veganism is to feel bigger and better than everyone else.

Cherry picked examples of people doing individual things rather than what Veganism actually means.

Cherry picking - lemmys/reddits favorite fallacy. All it does is undermine the entire logic of the opposing person. Its always the rare, individual, sideline stories.

Ok. Veganism harms less animals/people overall than meat eating.

You mean pointing out the fatal consequences of a fundamentalist approach to an ideology/religion with rigid rules for how people should live their lives? Yeah, pointing that out shouldn’t be allowed.

Here I thought it was about trying to be healthy and providing your body with the proper diet it needs.

Can be both. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not a hivemind. Lots of folks just come to a similar conclusion from all kinds of motivations.

I’m all for my views being challenged. Vegetarianism is perfectly fine for me. It’s a sensible, more environmentally conscious and healthy lifestyle (whether intermittent or not). Veganism, on the other hand, is an ideology I don’t support. It’s rigid and inherently elitist. Whether intended or not, it stokes fundamentalism and fanaticism (as in the examples I’ve mentioned in another post), and also does not provide all the essential nutrients humans need (according to WHO, Warwick Medical school, Gibbs, Capuccio etc). My view of veganism is based on learning everything I can about what veganism is and deciding that this is something I do not support.
